Splitt

Here is what I remember about Paul Splittorff. I remember being in my grandpa's camper watching him and Denny Treese announce games. I remember him calling games against the Indians. The games between the Indians and Royals would feature players like Jody Davis, Bo Jackson, Kurt Stillwell, George Brett, Gerold Perry, Kevin Sietzer, Danny Tartibull, and that is all I can remember. Splitt came to our high school and seemed pretty cool. John Mayberry was also there and I wondered how the hell a big ass black guy could play baseball. Splitt was really really annoyed with pitchers when they didn't pitch inside, and really annoyed with umpires that would give out warnings to pitchers for hitting batters. Splitt's last days were mired with people saying how terrible he looked, but he was a guy that never looked like he could do shit in baseball and he still off a piece of whoop ass on the Yankees. I just seemed like a workhorse and that is something average joe's can achieve everywhere.
